SC Freiburg has signed Switzerland's defender Nicolas Kimmig until the end of the 2028 season.

The club announced on Friday that they have secured the services of the 27-year-old defender from FC Basel for the next four years. Kimmig was initially set to join SC Freiburg in January, but his transfer was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.

Kimmig is a versatile defender who can play as a central defender or right back. He has been playing for FC Basel since 2019 and has made over 400 appearances in all competitions for the club.

The signing of Kimmig comes at a time when SC Freiburg is looking to strengthen their defense. The team has had several injuries this season, including the suspension of goalkeeper Simon Bösch and midfielder Martin Hülse.
